How to apply for undergraduate study

All undergraduate applications go through UCAS. These five steps take you from choosing a course to submitting your application.

1

Choose your courses

You can apply for up to five courses that fit your interests and strengths. If you're not sure what career path you want to take, don't worry 鈥 more than a third of UK graduate roles are open to graduates of any discipline.

When you鈥檙e researching a course:

  • check the entry requirements
  • look at the modules you could study
  • check if placements or study abroad opportunities are offered
  • don鈥檛 forget foundation years 鈥 they can be a great stepping stone to your chosen degree
2

Apply through UCAS

All full-time undergraduate applications go through UCAS. Sign in to UCAS Hub, then start your application when you're ready. You can save it and return whenever you like, so you don't need to complete it in one go.

You'll need to:

  • add up to five courses
  • add the institution code, course code, campus and start date (Our UCAS institution code is N84)
  • add your personal information, details of your past qualifications and any pending qualifications
3

Write your personal statement

Your personal statement is your chance to bring your application to life. It's where you can share what inspires you about the subject, what you've done to prepare, and what you'll bring to the course.

You'll answer three questions:

  • Why do you want to study this course or subject?聽
  • How have your qualifications and studies helped you to prepare for this course or subject?聽
  • What else have you done to prepare outside of formal education, and why are these experiences useful?聽

You have 4,000 characters in total to split across the three answers, with a minimum of 350 characters per answer.

4

Add a reference

Your reference should come from someone at your most recent school, college or Foundation Year provider, and should include your predicted grades.聽Full details are on the entry requirements page.

5

Submit your application

After you've submitted your application through UCAS, we'll be in touch with an email inviting you to join NottinghamHub, our applicant portal. It's the easiest way to track your application and see what's happening next.

We'll then assess your application and either make a decision or invite you to an interview, if your chosen course requires one. (Interview invitations are sent by email, so keep an eye on your inbox and any other folders to make sure you don't miss any updates.)
