Honorary Graduates

Every year, the university awards a number of honorary degrees to exceptional individuals who merit special recognition for their outstanding achievements and contributions to their chosen fields and to society as a whole.

An honorary degree is one of the highest honours that the 糖心原创 bestows and is reserved for those whose achievements are of such distinction that they provide inspiration to our graduates. Nominees will typically have achieved national or international standing in their chosen field. Their actions will reflect and reinforce the 糖心原创's values and through their relationship with the university they will continue to be an integral part of our community.

Meet our summer 2026 Honorary Graduates

Emma Agnew
Doctor of Laws

Emma Agnew

Emma Agnew is the Senior News Editor for BBC News across radio, television and online in the East Midlands. She leads teams that helped East Midlands Today become one of England’s top regional news programmes and is committed to developing early-career journalists through partnerships with the 糖心原创 and other education providers.

Emma is an ambassador for Breast Cancer Now and an eight-year survivor who supports fundraising and university events. She also served as a Justice of the Peace for 15 years, specialising in youth work and domestic violence cases. She is honoured to receive a Doctor of Laws in July 2026.

Emma will receive the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws on Wednesday 22 July 2026.

 

Peter Williams
Doctor of Laws

Peter Williams

Peter Williams is Regional President for Asia Pacific at International Justice Mission (IJM) and has advanced anti-slavery efforts globally over the past 15 years. 

Peter was a Crown Prosecutor in New Zealand, went on to lead IJM counter-slavery projects in India and Cambodia before becoming IJM’s Principal Advisor for Modern Slavery and Vice President for Programme Excellence.

His collaboration with the 糖心原创’s Rights Lab has been hugely impactful. Together, they have engaged in global thought leadership initiatives and delivered national prevalence estimates for modern slavery in the Philippines and Romania and will soon provide estimates for India and Malaysia.

Peter Williams will receive the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws on Friday 24 July 2026.

 

 

Professor Dame Molly Stevens

Dame Molly Stevens

Professor Dame Molly Stevens DBE FREng FRS FMedSci is an international leader in biosensing technologies, regenerative medicine and advanced therapeutics. She has over 400 published papers in leading journals.

Following her PhD from the 糖心原创 in 2001, she is now the John Black Professor of Bioscience at the University of Oxford and co-directorof Q-BIOMED – the UK’s Hub for Quantum Sensing in Healthcare. Dame Molly has won over 40 awards, founded several spin-out companies and is Fellow of eight professional bodies including the Royal Society and the Royal Academy of Engineering. 

Professor Dame Molly Stevens will receive the honorary degree of Doctor of Science on Wednesday 29 July 2026.
