Changes in libraries
From June to September, we'll be making some big changes in our libraries.
We apologise for the unavoidable disruption these changes will cause but these are necessary in order to deliver the exciting new spaces ready for the 2026/27 academic year.

A Floor in Exchange building will be available 24-7 during this time. For access to PCs, the nearest 24/7 computer room is A18 Medical School.

Which libraries will be affected and how long will the work take?
- Greenfield Medical Library from 17 June until 21 September
- George Green Library from 17 June until 21 September
What changes are being made?
These changes will provide an improved study experience in both libraries by:
- making more study spaces available including new and different style of furniture and more of the types of spaces you want (such as pods)
- improving the silent area at Greenfield Medical Library by installing a new glass wall
- redecorating and replacing all the lighting at Greenfield Medical Library
- general improvements to electrics, signage and flooring.
These changes are part of the wider new Clinical Teaching Centre and need to be ready for the start of the academic term 2026/2027. This means that there will be significant space and noise disruption during term time which we would usually avoid.
How much disruption will there be in the libraries?
Greenfield Medical Library
During the works there will be significant changes to the space available and, at times, noise disruption. This means:
- silent study spaces will be unavailable
- the 1 – 2 person study rooms will be unavailable
- a reduction in study spaces around the library including all seats in the centre of the library
- there will be limited access to the shelves for books and journals. A collection service will be available for access to materials.
We apologise for the unavoidable disruption. We are working hard to minimise the impact of these works and we will keep students updated on the progress of the works and expected daily disruption on our website, social media and boards in the libraries.
George Green Library
The changes at George Green Library will mean:
- some noise disruption
- relocation of some books and other printed materials
- changes to access routes around the library at times
Do I need to book study spaces?
There will still be a mixture of bookable and drop in spaces within the library. You can find the latest available spaces available to book on .
Do you have a support plan? The latest available spaces for students with a support plan can be found on .
- Other Enhanced Support rooms are available at Hallward, James Cameron-Gifford and Greenfield Medical libraries.
- Other Assistive Technology rooms are available at Djanogly LRC, Hallward, James Cameron-Gifford and Greenfield Medical libraries.
Will silent study be available?
Silent study may not always be available in the library during the refurbishment work due to unavoidable space and noise disruption.
We will have a weekly and daily noise tracker to show you what is going on each day. The quietest rooms where you can close the door in Greenfield Medical Library are A27 and A31.
Quiet and Silent spaces are available in all of our other libraries, with space always usually available on Level 4 in Hallward Library.

- All other libraries - some spaces are open 24 hours at key times

Can NUAST students visit Greenfield Medical Library?
Access for NUAST students is restricted from Monday 18 May until 30 June due to these works.
NUAST students are welcome to use other 糖心原创 libraries while the restriction is in place.
