Manuscripts and Special Collections
Manuscripts and Special Collections holds the University's manuscript collections, the special printed book collections, and the East Midlands Collection.
The Reading Room is open to 糖心原创 staff, students and the general public. All items can be viewed in the Reading Room, but only items from the East Midlands Collection may be borrowed.
You can also visit our exhibitions at the Weston Gallery within the Lakeside Arts Centre.
Temporary summer closure 8 June - 9 August 2026
Manuscripts and Special Collections will be temporarily closed from 8 June to 9 August 2026. This is to allow for the relocation of the Reading Room and staff offices within King's Meadow Campus.
- The East Midlands Collection will be unavailable from Monday 1 June
- The Reading Room will be completely closed from 8 June until 9 August
During the closure period, there will be no access to archives or the library collections as well as significant disruption to the enquiry and copying services.
Staff within Manuscripts and Special Collections can still be contacted by email, but please be aware that colleagues will have restricted access to some collections.

Visiting the Reading Room
- To visit, please make an appointment by emailing the team at mss-library@nottingham.ac.uk
- Book at least two working days in advance to view rare books, archives or the microfilm reader.
- Search for material in advance with our and catalogues. Let us know which document references or books you want to see and they will be ready for you when you arrive.

- door access via level front door
- library on one level
- wheelchair-accessible unisex WC's
- low level service point
- parking for blue badge holders
