When is module enrolment?
Module enrolment takes place between Monday 7 September and Friday 18 September. You will need to have completed online registration before you can choose your modules, and we will contact you directly with instructions for how to complete module enrolment.
You will have the opportunity to make changes to your selections between Monday 21 September and Friday 2 October. You will have a further chance to adjust your Spring modules at the start of term in January, if you wish.
How many optional modules can I take?
This will depend upon your programme of study. The number of optional modules available to you may also change as you progress through your studies.
Full-time students are required to take a total of 120 credits a year. We advise a 60/60 credit split across semesters, although it is usually possible to take as little as 50 in one semester and no more than 70 in another.
Part-time students are typically required to take 60 credits in a year.
Can I take any module I like?
No. There will be restrictions on some modules. For example, some modules will only be available to students in the school/department they are based in, while some will only be available to students outside of that school/department. Some will have pre-requisites or will require you to have previously studied a similar module. If you are unsure about your eligibility for a module, please check with the module convenor.
You will also need to ensure that lectures for optional modules do not clash with lectures for your compulsory modules. You will only need to attend one seminar group and there are usually multiple to choose from, so these are less likely to be a problem, but you must be available to attend the lectures.
Some modules will have caps, meaning that there is a maximum number of students who can enrol. Enrolment on these modules is offered on a first-come, first-served basis, so consider what other modules you might like to take if your first choice is unavailable. We recommend giving at least three alternatives for capped modules.
Where can I find out which modules are available?
The is divided into two key sections: Module Catalogue and Programme Catalogue.
From the Module Catalogue, you can search for any module using its code or name to find detailed information.
From the Programme Catalogue, you can view both compulsory modules and restricted (optional) module choices for your programme.
You also have the option to study a language alongside your main subject, with credits contributing towards your degree. You can either start a new language from scratch, or you can improve on existing skills. Find out what language modules are available.

When will my modules show on my timetable?
Module enrolment is a key process in enabling us to populate your individual teaching timetable. Teaching timetables will be available with core modules from Monday 14 September – the sooner you choose your optional modules, the sooner you will have a complete teaching timetable.
If you do not complete module enrolment, there will be gaps in your teaching timetable.

How do I know if my optional modules will clash?
To find out whether your modules will clash, you will need to log in to your teaching timetable with your university username and password (make sure you’ve activated your IT account first).
