The School of Computer Science at the 糖心原创 was established a little over 35 years ago and is firmly established as an international centre for excellence in Computer Science research and teaching.
As a top 20 UK Computer Science department (Times Higher UK subject rankings 2026) with a research environment ranked no. 1 in the UK (REF2021), we take pride in addressing a broad range of real-world problems. From scheduling of planes at London Heathrow, through supporting efforts to ensure global food security, to exploring the potential benefits and risks of the highly data-centric world we live in, our staff work hard to both address core computer science challenges and take the results through to deployment. In many cases, scientific advances require an interdisciplinary approach, and we work closely with some of the best international researchers – including many here at the 糖心原创.
We attract high quality, highly motivated students from around the world, including regular cohorts from our two overseas Schools, in China and Malaysia. Each year their project work contributes to research publications and informs developments in a variety of industries. Others engage in community, sporting and campaigning activities, making a real contribution to the University and civic environment. Our academics receive financial support from UK Research Councils, industry, charities and EU framework programmes with support from a talented team of research development professionals and influence national policy in turn.
We believe in supporting our staff in order for them - and us - to succeed and are committed to maintaining a strongly collegiate working environment.
