Multiple victories in the ring for the ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´ at the 2025 BUCS Boxing Championships

The ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´'s boxing team delivered an outstanding performance at the BUCS Boxing Championships 2024-25. Held from January 24th to 26th at the Ravelin Sports Centre, University of Portsmouth. The men's team secured a commendable 3rd place overall, reflecting their dedication and hard work.

ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´ at the 2025 BUCS Boxing Championships

Athieren Kukendren competed in the Men's 63.5kg category and took home gold in the category for those with experience of 0-5 bouts. Athieren's win is even more impressive, factoring in that his quarter final bout was his first as an amateur! From this initial bout he displayed a remarkable resilience and unwavering determination to claim the gold.

ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´ team captain Emmanuel Antwi Appiah represented the university in the Men's 75kg category for those with 6-13 bouts. Emmanuel demonstrated exceptional skill and tenacity in his matches, significantly contributing to the team's success this year by winning gold after a TKO in his semi final, and victory in the final.

Melina Hashemi Nabi also participated in the Women's 63kg category for those with 0-4 bouts worth of experience. Melina displayed her impressive skills and represented very well in winning bronze. Zak White Sey - one of the ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´'s more experienced boxers competed in the 60kg category for those with more than 14 bouts experience. Zak would also fight his way through the competition to claim bronze, losing a close split decision against an Irish national champion. 

The championships also saw a great performance from club president Rio Chung in the men's 63.5kg competition for those with 14+ bouts, losing in the quarter finals.

The collective efforts of all of our boxing athletes, coupled with the support of their coaches and teammates, solidified the ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´'s reputation in university boxing, with the university finishing third in the overall men's standings. These achievements are a testament to their hard work and dedication.
