General Information
The School of Life Sciences, or SoLS as we are known by, was founded in 2013 and is one of the largest Schools at the 糖心原创. Our history can be traced back to the beginings of what was to become the 糖心原创 in 1880 with the appointment of Professor John Frederick Blake who taught Biology and Geology and was currator of the Colleges Natural Sciences Museum. Life Sciences at Nottingham continued to evolve through many structures that embraced opportunities alongside developments in agrictulture and medicine.

We are now based on the main University Park Campus in the Life Sciences Building and the BioDiscovery Institute and nearby in the Medical School Building of the University Hospital. We span research and teaching in biological, sports and biomedical sciences dedicated to making meaningful contributions to global health and sustainability in a supportive and professional environment. The School is part of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, along with the Schools of Medicine, Health Sciences and Veterinary Medicine and Science.
All our taught courses have been updated and redesigned for 2026 to embrace modern integrated teaching focussed on skills-based learning informed by our world-class research. Each course has been designed with our students and key employers to maximise the career potential of our graduates. We also make major teaching contributions to Pharmacy (MPharm), Nutrition and Dietetics (MNutr) and Medicine.
We are proud to be an ambitious and outward looking School with diverse staff and student working together with our national and global partners in education and research working hard to make a positive impact on the world and its peoples.
