In recognition of Black History Month, we are screening We Were Here – The Untold History of Black Africans in Renaissance Europe, a groundbreaking documentary by Ghanaian-Italian filmmaker Fred Kudjo Kuwornu.
Drawing on Renaissance art, archival material and contributions from leading historians and cultural figures, the film uncovers the often-overlooked lives and experiences of both free and enslaved Africans in Renaissance Europe. Filmed across Europe and beyond, it explores questions of race, art, belonging and the making of European culture.
The screening will be introduced by Fred Kudjo Kuwornu and followed by a post-screening discussion and audience Q&A.
