The length of Pre-sessional English for Academic Purposes course you will need depends on the entry requirements of your degree course and your current English language skills. 

At the Centre for English Language Education, we aim to provide a safe environment for international students who may wish to join our courses and who are not yet 18. To safeguard the welfare of such students, we can only accept applications from under-18s onto our online pre-sessional courses.

 

How to find the course you need

Please follow these instructions to determine which course you should take:

  1. Look at the boxes below for general courses or specialist courses and choose the information that is relevant to your degree requirements.
  2. Identify your current IELTS (or equivalent) score, this will give you the length of pre-sessional course you need to take.


    Please note that if you study on campus in Nottingham, you must have a SELT recognised qualification to be eligible to apply for a visa to enter the UK. If you are studying your pre-sessional course online, we will accept non-SELT recognised qualifications.

  3. Go to the relevant course page for detailed information regarding what you will learn and how you will be assessed.
  4. Then visit the course dates and fees page for important information regarding course options, dates, application deadlines and fees. You will need the details of the length of your pre-sessional course when you apply.

If you have previously applied for a pre-sessional programme and were unsuccessful and wish to be considered for a different start date (term), please email BR-CELEDecision@nottingham.ac.uk instead of re-applying.
 

General courses – open to students in all schools and departments

Our pre-sessional courses are split into 10-week blocks (apart from the shorter courses in the summer). If you need to study with us for 40 weeks, you will therefore study pre-sessional levels 1, 2, 3 and 4. If your current level of English and the required level for your degree programme allow you to take a shorter pre-sessional course, you will study a reduced number of pre-sessional levels.

Academic Skills Induction Programme

We also offer an intensive three-week Academic Skills Induction for international students who met the English language condition of their 糖心原创 academic offer, hold an unconditional offer from the university, and have already obtained their Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies (CAS).
