Pack for good

The 糖心原创 has teamed up with the British Heart Foundation (BHF) to provide donation points in each hall of residence on campus. The message is simple – make packing easier by donating your unwanted stuff. You can donate nearly anything to BHF donation points within the hall, including books, electricals, furniture, ornaments and clothes. The only thing the banks can’t take are duvets and pillows.

Each hall will have a donation point, and there are large on street banks at Ancaster, Sherwood and Melton hall car parks if you have a lot of stuff to donate.

At Sutton Bonington there is a donation bank near the James Cameron-Gifford library.

By donating to BHF you are supporting the the charity, diverting waste from landfill and saving thousands of Kgs of CO2 from entering the waste stream.

Recycle right

Make sure you separate your recycling and general waste when getting ready to move out of your accomodation. Most items from your room can be recycled - have a look at the most common items.

General waste

Before disposing of something in the general waste, consider if it could be donated via British Heart Foundation bins, or recycled if it is waste. Have a look at items that should go in the general waste.

 

Donate your leftover food 

You can donate all unopened non-perishable food items (tins, pasta, and packets) to local food banks via drop off points on campus.

The Students' Union run a food bank donation point outside of the SPAR shop on Level B of Portland building.

At Sutton Bonington you can donate food at Bonington SV reception.

The message is simple – make packing easier by donating your unwanted stuff. You can donate nearly anything to a local big red BHF bank, including books, electricals, furniture, ornaments and clothes. The only thing the banks can’t take are duvets and pillows. 

By donating to BHF you are supporting the charity, diverting waste from landfill and saving thousands of Kgs of CO2 from entering the waste stream. Read about the campaign here.

Recycle right

The more items you can recycle will free up space in your general waste bin and prevent excessive bags spilling out of bins into the street.

Common mistakes when recycling household waste:

  • Don’t bag it! Recyclable items need to be clean, dry and loose. Bagging before binning contaminates the recycling – keep it loose
  • Pizza – Greasy pizza boxes need to go into general waste and not recycling
  • Juice Cartons – Tetra packs often can’t be recycled. Supermarket recycling centres may take them

Electronics - broken or working - can be recycled. Use this  to find out how and where items can be disposed of sustainably. This includes anything with a plug, battery or cable.

Household waste

By keeping on top of your household waste during the last term it saves any unwanted big pile ups in the last couple of weeks.

If you live in Nottingham City you can make this super easy by signing up for the   email alert service from Nottingham City Council.

There are extra large bins at KMC campus from June - September to help you dispose of large amounts of waste that can't be donated or recycled.

Bike Donations

If you have a bike you no longer need, then please consider donating it to  or , their mechanics refurbish donated bikes for resale or use in community projects. To donate abike please drop it off at a  or  workshop during opening hours. 

Good quality bikes can also be donated to the  in Nottingham City Centre.
