Clearing mythbusters

Some people have some pretty strong opinions about Clearing - not all of them positive! That’s why we’ve created our Clearing mythbusters, to answer some frequently asked questions and put your mind at ease.

Mythbusters

I’m in Clearing. Does this mean I’m a failure?

Are you kidding?!  Whether you’re in Clearing because things didn’t go to plan or you’ve changed your mind about where you’re going to study, it’s a positive thing. Clearing is your opportunity to take control and explore your options.

Will other students think less of me because I came to UoN through Clearing?

See our answer above 😊.  Our students come from a range of backgrounds and circumstances and that’s what makes our community so wonderful. If you come to Nottingham through Clearing, nobody will know unless you tell them and if you do, they won’t care!

If I come through Clearing, I’m not cut out for university, am I?

That’s not true! Starting university is a totally new experience for everyone, whether they came through Clearing, aced their exams or they changed their mind about where to study at the last minute. Everyone is in the exact same position, so if you come to us through Clearing, you’ve earned your place – just like everybody else.

It’s too late to change my mind about what course I want to study, isn’t it?

Not at all. Clearing is the perfect opportunity to re-think your plans if you want to. It’s your choice.

I applied to UoN but got rejected, so I can’t apply to you through Clearing, can I?

Actually, you can. If we’re offering a course in Clearing and you meet the entry requirements, you can apply for it. And the lovely people processing your application won’t know or care that you were rejected before.

What if I can’t get through to the hotline?

Keep trying! The lines are going to be busy so make sure your phone is fully charged and you’ve got all the details you need. That way, when you do get through to us, we can make it as easy as possible to get you sorted.

Alternatively, you can submit your application using our online form. It asks you exactly the same questions that you’d be asked on the phone.

Where will I live? There’ll be no places left in accommodation, will there?

You don’t need to worry. We guarantee all first year students - including those who come to us through Clearing - a place in university accommodation. Find out how to book your accommodation.

Clearing’s so rushed. How will I have time to make a decision?

It’s important to do your research before results day. We publish our Clearing courses the night before - if you’ve signed up for our  we’ll let you know when they’re live - so you can see what’s available and start shortlisting.
