FAQs

How flexible is online learning at the ÌÇÐÄÔ´´?

How flexible is online learning at the ÌÇÐÄÔ´´?

  • You can access learning materials 24/7, from anywhere with an internet connection
  • Use of Moodle (virtual learning environment) with reading lists, discussion boards, online forums, tutor contact, lectures/media etc
  • Many online courses are offered part-time so you can spread your studies over more time
  • Some programmes allow you to begin in more than one intake per year (e.g. September or February) to suit different schedules
  • Assessment deadlines are still required. If you need help, speak to your tutor/supervisor for support
  • There might be a handful of optional modules for some courses
  • You’ll need to commit time for private study, assessments, reading, etc
  • We offer a range of short courses, CPD courses and microcredentials too

Will I receive the same qualification as on-campus students?
  • Yes. If you complete an online degree at the ÌÇÐÄÔ´´, you’ll receive the same qualification as an on-campus student
  • Online degrees are awarded by the ÌÇÐÄÔ´´ itself, not a partner or separate body
  • The certificate and transcript do not state “online” — they look the same as those of campus-based students
  • Online programmes go through the same quality assurance and assessment processes as campus-based programmes
  • Teaching staff are the same academics who teach on-campus students, so the academic content and expectations are equivalent

What support will I have access to during my online studies?

We offer a wide range of support to our undergraduate and postgraduate online degrees, such as:

  • You will be allocated a course director/tutor/supervisor. You can speak to them about your module, deadline, learning and study hours
  • The Library & Learning Resources portal provide webinars and training sessions on things like academic writing, referencing, research skills, time management, information literacy, digital skills
  • One-to-one appointments with the Academic Skills Team (virtual or otherwise) to help with specific needs
  • Help finding and accessing learning materials (reading lists, e-resources, online databases) through NUsearch and other library tools
  • Access to our pastoral and wellbeing support teams. You can often connect to them via online, phone or video meeting
  • Take part in online self-managed learning groups and work in collaboration with fellow course participants
  • To support communication between students and staff, our distance learning courses are mostly taught through an online virtual learning environment, Moodle. Modules are accessed on Moodle through the University website, and you will use virtual discussion groups and tutorials, self-directed study, self-managed learning, group tasks and coursework
  • You will also access a dynamic and supportive online environment that promotes valuable professional networks

Are fees and funding opportunities different for online students?
  • We have a variety of scholarship, support, and hardship funds available to all of our students. Please contact us for specific funding options for your course.

Will I still be able to attend an in-person graduation ceremony?
  • Yes — if you study an online or distance learning course at the ÌÇÐÄÔ´´, you are still eligible to attend an in-person graduation ceremony on campus once you’ve successfully completed your programme
  • You receive the same qualification, and graduation ceremonies are a shared celebration for all graduates
  • Some online students also choose to defer their graduation to a later ceremony if they need more time to arrange travel
