Welcome to the Machine Welcome Week Activity (undergraduate)
About Welcome to the Machine
In the Welcome to the Machine activity during Welcome Week, all first-year students will be introduced to key computer systems, which will be used as part of your studies. This will take place in A32, which is the main Computer Lab in the Computer Science Building.
- Students will be divided into two separate groups for a two-hour session, which is compulsory to attend.
- One session will take place in the morning, and one session will take place in the afternoon. The same content will be covered.
- The other two hours (either in morning or afternoon depending on your group), students will attend two hour-long online sessions about Academic Essentials and Academic Communication.
- Academic Essentials aims to help you understand the academic conventions you are expected to follow by the University, including academic integrity, criticality and formality
- Academic Communication aims to introduce the main modes of academic communication used at the university, including Moodle and email, and how to make the best and most appropriate use of them.
- Details about which group you have been put into will be shared on your first day and via the Moodle Community Hub.
