Winning streak for canoe athletes extended on the water

ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´ athletes extended their winning streak at the 2026 BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) Canoe Sprint Championships, bringing home another impressive medal haul after a weekend on the water. Nottingham's Canoe Sprint team returned to Whitlingham, Norwich, to once again be crowned overall champions. Across the weekend of the 21-22 March, Nottingham brought home a strong haul of medals across both team and individual events, excelling against top university athletes from across Britain.

Two down, one to go. After a clinical weekend at BUCS Canoe Sprint and also winning at Wild Water Racing earlier in the season, we have put ourselves in the best position to sweep the year.

The ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´'s canoe team travelled to the 2026 BUCS Canoe Sprint Championships, held in Norwich, to deliver another successful weekend on the water. From the first medals won on the Saturday morning, to the end of racing on Sunday, Nottingham dominated the podium, bringing home an impressive total of 21 medals including 9 golds.

The weekend began with Nottingham claiming gold in all three events of the first medal presentation. The team dominated the women's categories, starting off with Beth Gill taking gold in the Women's C1 200m, followed by teammate Mollie Ball, who secured bronze. Amy Green also stepped to the top of the podium, winning gold in the Women's K2 500m kayak. Completing the first medal haul, Dan Jonson and Finn Cadell both stepped onto the podium in the Men's K1 500m, securing gold and bronze medals respectively.

Later in the day, Amy Green continued to impress, claiming three more medals. She won gold in the Women's K1 200m followed by bronze in the Women's K1 5000m. She also paired up with teammate Mollie Ball to finish second in the Women's K1 200m relay, claiming silver. The men's events brought further success, as Dan Johnson was victorious in the K1 5000m, finishing ahead of Finn Cadell in second place to add two more medals to the tally. Johnson and Cadell also combined forces to take silver in the Men's K2 200m, followed by Huw Singleton and Flynn Holt who took fourth place.

Nottingham kept up their pace thought into Sunday, where Finn Cadell and Mollie Ball claimed silver in the mixed K2 500m, the only mixed event of the weekend. Mollie Ball returned to the podium alongside Amy Green to claim gold in the Women's K2 200m. Mollie completed her weekend with a bronze in Women's C1 500m, behind Beth Gill, who claimed Gold for the second consecutive year. Dan Johnson also returned to the water to secure bronze in the Open K1 200m, before teaming up with Finn Cadell to take silver in the Open K2 200m. They were joined on the podium by teammates Flynn Holt and Huw Singleton, who took gold to make it two medals for Nottingham in the event. Holt added another podium finish with bronze in Open Canoe 500m, just ahead of Singleton in fourth place. Nottingham also dominated medals in both Canoe 5000m events, led by Beth Gill, who claimed Gold yet again in the women's category, alongside Huw Singleton, who took silver in the men's.

After taking home a total of 21 medals for the Green and Gold, Nottingham was crowned overall champions, , rounding of an impressive weekend at the 2026 Championships. Dan Johnson reflected on the team's success by saying; "Two down, one to go. After a clinical weekend and also winning at Wild Water Racing, we have put ourselves in the best position to sweep the year."

To round off what has already been a highly successful season, the team now look ahead to the Canoe Slalom Championships at the beginning of May.
