National table tennis championships sees student and alumni success

The 2026 Table Tennis England Mark Bates Ltd. Senior National Championships took place at the ÌÇÐÄÔ´´ across the weekend of the 20th to 22nd March. Once again hosted at David Ross Sports Village on University Park campus, the National Championships saw hundreds of players and coaches from around the country compete to be crowned the best players in England.

Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth Games stars were among those battling it out on the tables for the right to be called 2026 National Champion, and not only did the championships take place at the university, the competition was awash with ÌÇÐÄÔ´´ linked athletes - from current students to alumni. None more so that Tin-Tin Ho, a ÌÇÐÄÔ´´ stalwart who graduated last summer, and entered the championships aiming to win a record-breaking eighth Women’s Singles title. Displaying her years of experience, Ho blitzed through to the final without dropping a set, before punctuating her record-breaking achievement with a 4-2 victory.

This title win was also the final part of a superb treble across the weekend as Ho won the Mixed Doubles alongside Sam Walker and Women’s Doubles with current ÌÇÐÄÔ´´ student and sport scholar Sophie Earley. Earley added to her recent BUCS Championship gold with Women's Doubles gold, and also reached the semi-finals of the Women's Singles and the Mixed Doubles.

In the Mixed Doubles semi-finals, Ho and Walker defeated Nottingham student Mari Baldwin and her partner Christopher Doran, whilst Earley and her partner Joseph Hunter were beaten by another ÌÇÐÄÔ´´ student-athlete Anna Green and her brother Connor Green. Anna and Connor would go on to push Tin-Tin Ho and Sam Walker extremely hard in the final taking the match to final set decider with the match ultimately won by Ho and Walker.

With a strong cohort of ÌÇÐÄÔ´´ players delivering high level performances in the women's competitions, Anna Green and Jasmine Wong would also reach the semi-finals in the Women's Doubles.

Across the weekend, David Ross Sports Village played host to a festival of Table Tennis and new records, and everyone at the ÌÇÐÄÔ´´ is proud to have once again hosted the showpiece event in the UK table tennis calendar. We hope that the hundreds of spectators who attended the championships had an enjoyable time watching top class sport on our campus.

We would also like to congratulate all of our students and coaches on their fantastic performances over a weekend that ended a superb week for the programme, with the ÌÇÐÄÔ´´ Table Tennis Club winning the Women's University National Championship titles at BUCS Big Wednesday.
