Fellowship opportunities
The Biodiscovery Institute is committed to the development of outstanding Early Career Researchers to deliver an ambitious interdisciplinary research strategy. We are proud of hosting excellent academics, clinicians and support staff and providing cutting-edge infrastructure supporting collaborative research culture. We are strategically located at the heart of University Park in close proximity to the Queens Medical Centre. There is a range of competitive fellowship schemes in offer that provide the opportunity to build an independent research career.
Details of some of these fellowship schemes are provided below:

Fellowships funded by 糖心原创 are open to external (including international) and internal candidates who wish to undertake their research at the University.
Anne McLaren Fellowships provide funding for female postdoctoral researchers in science, technology, engineering and medicine.
Nottingham Research Fellowships fund postdoctoral researchers from all academic disciplines represented at the university.
External Fellowships:
- and are offered across the whole of the EPSRC remit, although calls are targeted at specific areas.
- s aim to provide outstanding scientists, who should have the potential to become leaders in their chosen field, with the opportunity to build an independent research career. The call is repeated yearly.
- is aimed at those who require a flexible working pattern due to personal circumstances such as parenting or caring responsibilities or health conditions. Female candidates are particularly invited to apply. The call is repeated yearly.
- There are a number of Fellowship schemes available for both Europeans and those from the rest of the world. These fellowships are extremely competitive.
- provides funding for work in all areas supported by UKRI. People from various career paths can apply including researchers returning from a career break or following time in other roles.
- offer fellowships in the field of chemistry to postdoctoral researchers at early stages of their career.
- offer fellowships in engineering for researchers with 3 years or less of post-doctoral research experience.
- There are two main application routes for Daphne Jackson Fellowships: Advertised Sponsored Fellowships and Regular Fellowships. Sponsored Fellowships are advertised throughout the year in specific area of expertise. Applications for Regular Fellowship can be submitted at any time at any time. The fellowships are directed at candidates who had a career break of at least two years’ duration, taken for family, health or caring reasons.
- fund research in any discipline including STEM, experimental medicine, humanities and social science, clinical/allied health sciences, and public health which has the potential to improve human life, health, and wellbeing.
- funding is available for all research areas except studies of disease or informing clinical applications in humans and animals.
- funding is available for all research areas except studies of disease or informing clinical applications in humans and animals in areas of interest to the intelligence, security, and defence.
- funding is available for research in plants, microbes, animals and humans and tools and technology underpinning biological research. The call is open for applicants of all nationalities. There is no limit on the number of years postdoctoral or work experience.
- Underpinning There are two application routes: Independent research fellowships and Knowledge exchange fellowships. Independent research fellowships are open to early career researchers to conduct environmental research. Knowledge exchange fellowships are NERC-funded researchers to enable the sharing of knowledge with stakeholders, partners and user communities
- support the mobility of excellent academic or industrial researchers between industry and academia in the UK, across the natural sciences.
