Description

The third National Tutoring Seminar on the theme of Promoting Student Engagement, Belonging and Purpose:  developing Excellence in Personal Tutoring…, which will take place on 26th October, 2016,  be hosted by the University of Central Lancashire, Preston, and offer great savings for CRA members.

Given the emerging national context, our third seminar will seek to:

  • Firmly locate Tutoring and Advising Practice in the ‘Excellence Agenda’ from a range of perspectives:  Sectoral, Institutional, Departmental and Student.  Participants will leave with an appreciation of thinking, resources and frameworks which can be utilised to ensure that effective and excellent practice in student support and guidance is fully developed and represented in the TEF.
  • Showcase innovative thinking and practice from across the sector.
  • And provide the initial workshop for the second cohort of the CRA/SEDA Professional Development Award in Personal Tutoring and Academic Advising, which is currently only available via this route.

Key contributors are confirmed as:

  • Camille Kandiko Howson, Senior Lecturer in Higher Education, Academic Head of Student Engagement, Kings College London, on 'Excellence in Tutoring:  what do we know, what do we need to know....'.
  • Sue Riddell: Head of Student Engagement, Attainment & Success Canterbury Christ Church University, on ‘Towards Excellence - from an institutional perspective’.
  • Eve Lewis, Director, SPARQS (student partnerships in quality Scotland), on ‘Towards Excellence - supporting student engagement’.

Together with a full range of workshops/discussion groups.

Full information is attached, together with a range of booking options:

For options B and C the Award can be undertaken as an individual or as a member of an institutional cohort (3-6 staff) with mentoring support either from CRA staff or, subject to a formal MoU) by institutional staff.  In either case the fee meets all support and accreditation costs associated with the Award-no further fees are payable.  Again the costs are lower for members.

Given the date of the seminar the closing date for signing up to the Award has now been extended to 26th October 2016. If you’d like to discuss any aspect of this please do not hesitate to get in touch.

We look forward to hearing from you.

My best wishes,
Rob Ward
