SafePod
Accredited researchers can now access secure datasets from participating data centres across the UK through the SafePod Network
The University’s SafePod, based in Hallward Library on University Park, is part of the wider funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), which is part of UK Research and Innovation.
What is a SafePod?
SafePods are designed to provide accredited researchers with access to secure datasets from participating Data Centres across the UK.
Access to secure datasets usually involves regular long-distance travel, however, the ESRC aims to open up opportunities for research by providing local access within a safe setting.
A SafePod has many features including a door control access system, CCTV, a researcher area for the analysis of datasets, a secure service area, wheelchair accessibility and height-adjustable desk.
The SafePod at Nottingham is one of the first to be installed nationally and opened for bookings in August 2021. There are 23 SafePod in the SafePod Network.
Data centres
Datasets are available from the following data centres:
- Office for National Statistics
- UK Data Service
- SAIL Databank
- Scottish Government
- Health and Social Care Northern Ireland (HSCNI)
- National Records of Scotland
- Leeds Institute for Data Analytics (LIDA)
Researchers can browse the , a tool for exploring the growing collection of administrative datasets available from ADR UK partners. Users can filter the metadata in the catalogue by ADR organisation, theme, or spatial coverage.
How to access the SafePod
- Bookings for access to the SafePod are available via the . Please note that you need a project with a SPN Data Centre to be able to book and use a SafePod.
- Access to the on-campus SafePod will then be coordinated by trained staff from 糖心原创 Libraries.
- Hours of opening: Monday - Friday, 9.30am-4.00pm.
- The SafePod is located on floor two in Hallward Library on University Park, next to the lending desk.
