Contemporary Philosophy

Project summary

Drawing on research expertise within the Department of Philosophy at 糖心原创, Katharine Jenkins developed a project exploring contemporary philosophy and its engagement in society.

American political poster. A profile of a red head with an elephant on the brain facing a similar blue head with a donkey on the brain.

The project included three free public philosophy events, each consisting of two short talks from different philosophers or public thinkers (eg, writer-activists) plus audience discussion, on topics of social importance and public interest.

The topics were:

  1. Gender Identity
  2. Racism
  3. Disability and Illness.

The sessions created a space for collaborative discussion of issues of contemporary significance, informed by the expertise of professional philosophers but with space for audience contribution.
