Assessments impacted by the strike action/marking assessment boycott (MAB)
If one or more of your modules have been affected by MAB, this will be clearly indicated on Bluecastle when results are released on Thursday 16 July 2026.
This means that the university has applied its Contingency Regulations to any modules affected. If affected, results may include a derived mark, part derived mark or part-for-whole outcome.
You can reject your contingency regulation marks if you wish to do so, but you must complete a by 12pm (midday) on Friday 24 July 2026.
If you are happy to accept your contingency marks, no action is required. Please note that your assessments will not be marked at a later stage.

What do I need to consider if I'm thinking about rejecting my contingency marks?
Before making any decision, it is important that you understand the implications of rejecting a derived mark or part-for-whole outcome.
If you reject the outcome offered:
- You cannot return to accept any derived mark or part for whole outcomes once rejected, regardless of what the true mark(s) does to the overall outcome.
- Your degree award or progression decision will be delayed. At this time we cannot confirm the length of delay, but we will provide an update on this as soon as we are able to.
- If you are a finalist you will not be awarded your degree in July. We will continue to confer awards every month, so once you have final results your award will be conferred, your digital document will be uploaded and a hard copy sent to your recorded home address. You can still attend your graduation ceremony if you have registered.
- We have our contingency regulations in place, which means that you can continue to your next level of study if you have successfully completed 80 credits of study, and are awaiting marks for the remaining credits (subject to confirmation from you school examination board). If you are waiting for marks/ have failure in more than 40 credits of study, you may not be able to progress into the next academic year which will extend the duration of your studies.
- In relation to the above there may be financial and/or visa implications which you should consider prior to making your decision.
- There is no guarantee that your eventual outcome will be higher than the one currently available.
What do I need to do if I want to accept my contingency marks?
Check Bluecastle for your results on or after 10am on Thursday 16 July 2026.
Sometimes it can take a few minutes to log on after results are published as lots of people try to access Bluecastle at the same time. If any of your modules are impacted by the Marking and Assessment Boycott, this will be clearly shown on Bluecastle. If there is no indication, that module has not been affected.
If one or more of your modules are affected you will have the option to accept or reject all marks.
If you wish to accept your marks, no action is required.
We will ensure that returning students progress as expected and for finalists we will ensure that your award is conferred (conferral means that you have been admitted to your award as a graduate of the university - to be conferred you must have no outstanding debts to the university). You can attend your graduation ceremony if you have registered and we will arrange for your award documentation to be sent to you and made available electronically.
What do I need to do if I want to reject my contingency marks?
Check Bluecastle for your results on or after 10am on Thursday 16 July 2026.

If any of your modules are impacted by the Marking and Assessment Boycott, this will be clearly shown on Bluecastle. If there is no indication, that module has not been affected.
If one or more of your modules are affected you will have the option to accept or reject all marks.
If you decide to reject any of your results, you will be rejecting all applied contingency regulation marks, you cannot reject marks by module. To formally reject the contingency regulations applied you must complete a by 12pm on Friday 24 July 2026. Once your assessments have been marked and your results confirmed by your school's examination board, you will receive confirmation of your results.
If no declaration is received by the deadline, we will assume that you have accepted the outcome shown on Bluecastle. We will ensure that returning students progress as expected and for finalists we will ensure that your award is conferred. We will arrange for you to receive your award documentation.
When will re-assessments take place?
Details for reassessments will be released via Bluecastle on Thursday 23 July 2026. The reassessment period is between Monday 17 August and Saturday 29 August 2026. What if I have Extenuating Circumstances claims agreed?
If you have an EC outcome allowing you to take your assessment again as a first attempt this will have a mark of zero for that assessment, and that will feed into your Bluecastle module mark. The zero will not have been included in the calculation of a derived mark, it is only based on actual marks received. So you won’t have a derived mark for an assessment where you have a first sit, this will be recorded as a zero mark, but that zero will not have been used to calculate any overall derived marks.
When will I get my award documentation?
If you have been impacted by MAB and you accept your contingency marks, your award documentation will be made available to you electronically shortly after conferral. Your hard copy documentation will be sent during August. If impacted by MAB and you reject your contingency marks, we cannot confirm when your award documentation will be made available although we will provide an update on this as soon as we are able.
