LGBT History Month in the School of English
Welcome to LGBT+ History Month in the School of English! LGBT+ History Month is held every February and this is the hub for all our events each year. In 2022 we celebrated the month asking our School of English community for their book recommendations to share on our Instagram account.
LGBT History Month Reading List
We joined up with our friends over in Libraries to bring you reading recommendations all through the month of February. In 2020 the Libraries Team asked for recommendations to build their list of LGBT+ titles and you delivered!
In 2021 we spotlighted books on our Instagrams, and over @UoNEnglish we got some personalised recommendations from members of staff!

Transgender Identities in the Press
Monday 15th February, 4 - 5 pm (Microsoft Teams)
In this talk, Dr Angela Zottola will discuss her research on the representation of trans people in newspapers. In her analysis, she pinpoints negative or harmful practices and discuss how the linguistic choices in newspapers can influence the way gender and sexual identities are understood in society. The paper focuses on the use of terminology and, generally speaking, on the type of discourses associated with trans people in the press.
