Current Research

Chris is best known for his work studying human decision making using a combination of theoretical and empirical (especially experimental) approaches. His work examines aspects of human motivation and decision processes including topics such as: how do people factor risk into their decisions; how to they trade off different dimensions of decisions (e.g. gains versus losses; the present versus the future); how do people influence each other's decisions; how do people make decisions in complex environments. Starmer has published widely across the leading international journals (e.g. American Economic Review, Econometrica, Economic Journal, Quarterly Journal of Economics, Review of Economic Studies, Review of Economics and Statistics, Management Science, and Nature Human Behaviour). He is also co-author of a book - - examining the methodological foundations of experimental economics.
