AHRC studentships at Nottingham

AHRC (Arts and Humanities Research Council) funded studentships at Nottingham offer you:

Funding including tuition fees, maintenance grant and research development, training and placement funds.
Supervision from experienced academics
Training in both research skills and career skills
Networking and collaboration with other AHRC funded researchers at Nottingham, and across the Midlands region via the East and West Midlands AHRC Hub for PGR excellence (website under development).

Applications are welcome from both home and internationals candidates.

Types of AHRC studentships

There are two types of PhD awards:

Doctoral Landscape Award (DLA)
Collaborative Doctoral Partnership Award (CDP) – applicants apply to projects which are developed by supervisors and collaborative organisations. Projects will be advertised on .

Thursday 12th November 2026 (1pm to 2pm UK time).

1) Check our AHRC research areas

Architecture research
Arts and humanities research - (American & Canadian Studies; Black Studies; Classics & Archaeology; Cultural, Media & Visual Studies; English; History; Modern Languages & Cultures; Music; and Philosophy, including Theology & Religious Studies)
Geography research - (historical and cultural geography)
Law research - (many areas including Common Law, Criminal Law, Legal History, Jurisprudence and the Philosophy of Law)
Politics and International Relations research - (political philosophy, diplomacy and international relations)

3) Apply for your PhD

We recommend you do this by 1st December.
