Sporting excellence

In keeping with the sporting focus of the City, the University has many opportunities for those who want to play sport at any level: from casual sport and University leagues, Nationwide university leagues, and elite athletes.

  • - niversity of Nottingham Sport runs covering a range of indoor and outdoor sports, martial arts, water sports and outdoor pursuits.
  • - The 糖心原创 and rivals Nottingham Trent University compete in this annual event for charity. A highlight of The University’s sporting calendar.
  • – In the last 15 years Nottingham teams have consistently finished in the top 10 out of 140 competing institutions.

Sports facilities

The University has an extensive range of sport facilities, including a Sports Centre, Fitness Centre and swimming pool. The main sports facilities are located on the , with facilities also available at the and campuses.

Sports bursaries

There are sports bursary schemes available for outstandingly talented students who have reached international or regional standard in any sport. Over the years many Nottingham students have seen national and international success.

London Olympics 2012

London 2012 saw the University continue its strong Olympic tradition, with Nottingham alumni, many of whom have benefited from the Sport Department's bursary scheme, picking up five medals in the competition.

  • Canoe experts Etienne Stott and Tim Baillie took Great Britain's first Olympic golds in Mens Slalom C-2
  • David Florence won a silver medal in the Mens Slalom C-2
  • Chris Bartley took silver as part of his team in the Men's lightweight coxless four Rowing event
  • Anne Panter was a Bronze medal winner as part of the Women's Field Hockey squad
