Biography

Javier completed his LLB (Law) and LLM (International Law) degrees at the University of Bristol. He obtained his PhD from the University of Birmingham and worked as a teaching fellow and then a lecturer before joining the 糖心原创 School of Law as Assistant Professor of Criminal Law (2022). He is the Co-Director of the Criminal Justice Research Centre, and the convener of the Criminal Law and Criminal Justice subsection for the UK . He is a member of the Editorial Board of Ex Legibus (Judicial College of the State of Mexico).

Expertise Summary

Javier's research focuses on atrocity crimes and issues that arise at the intersection between criminal law, criminal procedure and international law. He has a particular interest in the Mexican 'drug war', child soldiers, the International Criminal Court, and critical approaches to the global criminal justice system.

Javier welcomes PhD proposals in the field of criminal law, criminal procedure, transnational/international criminal law, the jus post bellum, transitional justice, and global crime problems more generally.
