Expertise Summary

Non-medical prescribing education and impact on professional boundaries and patient safety.

Novel innovative teaching technologies to encourage deeper learning by means of responsive and innovative strategies. (Reusable learning objects, podcasts, audience response units, buddy/peer support systems)

Mixed methods studies involving the design and use of questionnaires supplemented by focus groups or interviews.

Laboratory based expertise is based around the cell biology and function of smooth muscle cells (vascular and uterine) and includes cell culture, chemotaxis, proliferation, enzyme assays, immunoprecipitation, western blotting etc. Particular interests are the relevance of smooth muscle function phenotypic status to cardiovascular disease and pre-term labour.

Recent Research Supervisees

  • Shireen Quadri (Full-time PhD) An exploration of children's voices in non-medical prescribing consultations.
  • Abd Hasan (Full-time PhD) A comparison of different educational interventions on improving knowledge and reducing care-giver burden for families of schizophrenic patients in Jordan.
  • Matthew Broughton (Part-time PhD) Development of an educational intervention to engage obese men in healthcare.
