Biography

Graduated from the University of Padova (Italy) in 2004, Marco completed an internship at Alamo Pintado Equine Medical Centre in California (USA) in 2006, when he then moved to Glasgow, where Marco obtained a Master's in Veterinary Medicine by Research, a 4-year residency in Equine Internal Medicine obtaining the status of diplomat of the European College of Equine Internal Medicine in 2014. In Glasgow he also worked for 3 years towards his PhD on equine epidemiology and data analysis. Marco joined our School in 2014 and is involved in teaching throughout the 5 years and is currently involved in running the medicine service at the associate Pool House Equine Clinic, where he is an active contributor on clinical research including project on equine medicine, surgery as well as dentistry, such as the development of new tools ot assess dental pain in horses. In 2021 Marco became a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, in recognition of his contribution to teaching at the school. Marco's week is divided between teaching on campus and working at the associate practice Pool House Equine Clinic. Marco is also a member of the Board of the European College of Equine Internal Medicine.

Marco is active in veterinary clinical research, published extensively in the peer-review literature and has been invited speaker to several international congresses. Recently, Marco has been working alongside colleagues at the School of Physics to investigate the application of Raman Spectroscopy in equine clinical diagnostics. Marco has developed an interest in Artificial Intelligence and how to integrate AI tool in higher education and veterinary practice.

When not at work Marco enjoys spending time with his family, hiking and playing golf.

Research Summary

Research interest focus on the analysis of big datasets of electronic medical records from equine practice to answer relevant clinical questions.
