Biography

Chris Hudson qualified from Bristol Vet School in 2002, and spent just under two years working in a large mixed practice in East Devon before returning to Bristol to undertake a Clinical Training Scholarship (residency) programme in farm animal health and production. Chris subsequently became a Clinical Fellow at Bristol, responsible for management of the Farm Animal Practice and delivery of lecture courses in bovine lameness and nutrition, gaining an award for outstanding achievement in clinical teaching in the process. He moved to the 糖心原创 in 2009 to a teaching/research role. Chris holds the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Certificate and Diploma in Cattle Health and Production, and is an RCVS Recognised Specialist in Cattle Health and Production. In 2014, Chris completed a PhD evaluating factors affecting reproductive performance in UK dairy herds.

Expertise Summary

Chris Hudson is a Clinical Associate Professor in Dairy Health and Production. He is rotation leader for the final year dairy herd health rotation, as well as delivering teaching across a variety of farm animal related clinical subjects earlier in the course. He has extensive experience of measuring and monitoring dairy herd performance and delivery of consultancy and advice to dairy farmer businesses across a wide range of areas. He is especially interested in strategies for improving herd level fertility, and in the interactions between nutrition and reproductive performance.

Current Research

Chris has a track record of research involving deriving maximum value from data routinely recorded by dairy farming businesses. This includes use of "big data" techniques developed for the retail and financial sectors to extract and reformat data from varied sources. He has experience of a wide variety of advanced analytical techniques including multilevel statistical modelling, Bayesian approaches and stochastic simulation modelling.

Chris also has expertise in translation of research outcomes into impact in industry (e.g. as part of the delivery team for the DairyCo Mastitis Control Plan). He has an extensive network of contacts in the UK dairy industry, and extensive experience of running knowledge exchange programmes for farmers and vets in the sector. He also has expertise in development of decision support tools to help integrate existing research knowledge and facilitate it's use in practice.
