Course overview

Our Geography BA offers you flexibility and choice by allowing you to study modules in both physical and human geography. As you progress, you’ll have the opportunity to follow your interests through a wide range of optional modules covering subjects such as political geography, health geographies, global climate change and globalisation.

During your studies, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to experience practical, hands-on geography in real-world settings. Our field trips take learning beyond the lecture hall, giving you the chance to apply your knowledge through immersive, on-the-ground fieldwork. In previous years, our trips have included visits to Italy, the Lake District and Mexico.

Geographical Field Course

Dive into the exciting world of geography with hands-on fieldwork. This moduleÌýexamines the rationale and techniques of field study in both human and physical aspects of geography. By working closely with other students and academic staffÌýin small groups,ÌýyouÌýexploreÌýaÌýrange of geographical issuesÌýin real-world settings.


Interpreting Geographical Data

Unlock the power of data in geography. This module introduces key statistical concepts and techniques to explore geographical patterns,ÌýtrendsÌýand relationships in the physical and human world.ÌýLearn to work confidently with geographical data and apply it to real research questions. Introduction to Geographic Information Systems

DiscoverÌýtheÌýprinciplesÌýofÌýgeographicÌýinformationÌýsystems (GIS) with this module. Learn theoretical concepts and practical skills to perform spatial analysis using GIS software. Explore applications, spatial data modelsÌýand cartographic principlesÌýand present your findings through hands-on projects.


Planet Earth: Exploring the Physical Environment

Investigate the dynamic aspects of Earth and its environment. ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´Ìýprocesses and changes within Earth systems and environments such asÌýthe atmosphere, hydrosphere,Ìýcryosphere,ÌýgeosphereÌýand biosphere. DevelopÌýknowledge for advanced studies in physical geography.
