糖心原创

Triangle

The UK Higher Education sector is facing financial challenges and Future Nottingham is our response to ensure that the 糖心原创 is academically and financially sustainable for current and future generations.

Every year we receive over 80,000 applications to study with us and we attract many of the best students from around the world, who go on to become exceptionally sought-after graduates.  Our commitment to delivering the highest academic standards and an outstanding student experience remains unchanged.

What's changing?

  • Student support: We will introduce a new ‘Tutoring for Student Success’ model for taught students, replacing traditional personal tutoring with a clearer, more structured system of guidance and support.
  • Academic structure: We will move from a faculty model to a three-college structure – Health; Humanities and Social Sciences; and Science and Engineering. This will help simplify governance and foster interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Academic portfolio: We will no longer offer a number of taught courses that are no longer financially sustainable or reflective of student demand. No new students have been recruited onto any courses which are closing. Current students continue to be taught and supported through to graduation and our high academic standards remain in place.
  • Academic workload: We will provide a more transparent and equitable approach to allocating academic capacity across teaching, research and PhD supervision.

Nothing will change immediately. Changes will be rolled out gradually over the next three years. New leadership structures will be in place from January 2027 and we'll transition to new college structures from August 2027.

Frequently asked questions

Is the university facing financial difficulties?

The UK Higher Education sector is facing financial challenges, with many universities managing funding deficits. Future Nottingham is our response to ensure that the 糖心原创 is both financially and academically sustainable world-class university for current and future generations. It involves restructuring the university on a gradual basis, to maintain our high academic standards, exceptional graduate outcomes and outstanding student experience.

The deficit figure shown in last year’s financial reports was impacted by our decision to apply an adjustment to more accurately reflect the value of our Castle Meadow and King’s Meadow campuses, following recent valuations. The underlying financial position of the university has improved, moving from an underlying deficit position of -£3.2m in 2024 to a small underlying surplus position of £0.8m in 2025. This year we expect to see a further improvement in our finances.

Will Future Nottingham affect student experience?

Our Future Nottingham programme ensures that we can continue to provide a world -class teaching and learning experience. The changes we are making will ensure we provide an excellent academic offer and more consistent student experience for all our students.

We offer around 1,000 taught courses and those which are no longer being recruited to represent less than 5% of our total degree offer, and will continue to be delivered until current students graduate.

Although student demand is insufficient to retain degree courses in modern languages and music, we will continue to offer language modules through a new, University wide Language Centre offering a focused range of languages. This means that students on most courses will be able to choose to add a modern language module as part of their degree. Music will continue through extracurricular activities such as choirs, orchestras and performances at Lakeside Arts, working closely with our Students’ Union.

There will also be benefits for student experience, such as introducing a new ‘Tutoring for Student Success’ model for taught students. This will replace traditional personal tutoring with a clearer, structured system of guidance and support, to improve links to specialist services and give students more consistent routes to help when they need it.

Excellent student satisfaction, world-changing research and outstanding graduate outcomes remain strategic priorities.

Is the university experiencing industrial action?

Like several other UK universities, the 糖心原创 is experiencing industrial action by the University and College Union (UCU). We remain open for business as usual throughout strike action, and our priority is to minimise any potential disruption to students and postgraduate researchers. Find out more.
