Quantum Science and Engineering

Nottingham is an internationally-leading centre of excellence in the theory and application of quantum science and engineering, translating cutting edge fundamental physics and mathematics into revolutionary new technologies and products, working in partnership with industry.  Areas of expertise include: diamond quantum sensors, ultra cold atoms, imaging (MRI and OPM-MEG), materials for quantum technologies, quantum nano-materials, quantum metrology, quantum computing, and advanced manufacturing.

Partnerships and Facilities

Nottingham is an integral part of the UK's National Quantum Technologies Programme as a partner in the UK Quantum Technology Research Hub in Sensing, Imaging and Timing (QuSIT). The University is also home to cutting-edge facilities which are enabling quantum technologies research such as our Institute for Additive Manufacturing which is home to our Diamond Quantum Sensing Research Hub and which enables prototyping and manufacturing of quantum technologies. In addition, our nanoscale and microscale Research Centre (nmRC) which provides state-of-the-art analytical and fabrication instrumentation, and the Sir Peter Mansfield Imaging Centre’s unique capabilities in OPM-MEG research and ultra-high-frequency MRI, all contribute to our quantum research ecosystem.
