Biography

Prof Ian Connerton is Chair of Food Safety at the 糖心原创. He was awarded a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Warwick in 1985. After post-doctoral research at the University of Cambridge in Genetics, he joined the University of Reading in 1987 to teach Microbiology before joining the Institute of Food Research in 1991 first as a Section Leader and then Deputy Head of Food Macromolecular Science. He was appointed as the first Northern Foods Chair of Food Safety in 1998 (now 2 Sisters Chair). Current research includes host pathogen interactions of food borne bacterial (Campylobacter jejuni and enterovirulent E. coli) and viral pathogens, and the influence of bacteriophage on food borne bacterial pathogen populations.

Food-borne zoonotic pathogens

The influence and therapeutic use of bacteriophage against zoonotic pathogens in the human food chain

The synthesis and delivery pathogen products to host cells and their molecular responses

Studies of host protein interactions

Enzyme technology in partnership with agri-food industries

Making use of the traditional benefits of biological catalysts (chemical specificity, mild reaction conditions and low environmental loads) for food applications

Food Safety research is a multidisciplinary activity requiring several skill-bases and therefore research at Nottingham takes advantage of skills within the Division of Food Sciences and the wider University.
