The History of Law and Governance Centre warmly invites you to The Trial of Charles I, taking place at the National Justice Museum, Nottingham, on 6 November, 18:30–20:00.
Through a dramatic reconstruction led by two modern barristers, the event will explore the historic courtroom battle over treason, tyranny, and royal accountability. Members of the audience will decide the final verdict, before an academic discussion examines the legal and political questions raised by the trial and their continuing relevance today.
The event offers an opportunity to consider the relationship between law and political authority, the grounds upon which rulers may be held accountable, and the contested legitimacy of proceedings against a sovereign.
Admission is free and the event is open to all, but is ticketed. These can be booked via Eventbrite -
We would be grateful if you could circulate the poster through your academic and wider networks, including to students and others who may be interested. We hope you will also be able to join us for what promises to be an exciting event!
