We are delighted to hear that former student Kate Simpson has just edited the exciting and vital collection Out of Time: Poetry from the Climate Emergency.
Out of Time is made up of five, sequenced sections that take readers on a journey through a variety of responses to the climate emergency happening today. These include Emergency, Grief, Transformation, Work, and Rewilding. The poems featured illuminate the feelings of confusion and disarray, anger and violence, grief, desparation and lethergy, through to transformation, fable and utopia, as well as activism and work. Within it, there are tender, fragile moments of hope. This is a timelet and powerful collection, engaging with poetry in order to ask questions, subvert expectations, and raise awareness.
Edited with an insightful introduction by and featuring original work from poets including Caroline Bird, Inua Ellams, Pascale Petit, Karen McCarthy Woolf, Rachael Allen, Raymond Antrobus and Mary Jean Chan, this collection of 50 poems offers compressed worlds, ecosystems and alternate realities to be opened up, expanded and explored.
