Biography

Dr Martinez started her current position as Research Officer at the Centre for Analytical Bioscience (CAB) on October 2022. She got her Master's and Doctoral degrees at CINVESTAVIrapuato, Mexico, Plant Biotechnology. During this time, she designed and tested a low-temperature plasma-based ionisation source for Mass Spectrometry to directly analyse different types of samples. After this, she worked for the US Forest Service, at the Wildlife and Fish Forensics Laboratory in Ashland, Oregon, on an international project to create MS-based chemical fingerprints for endangered tree species.

She was a postdoctoral researcher for two years in ETH at Zenobi's Laboratory with an industry-financed project for the up-concentration of molecules using paper-based technology for Mass Spectrometry. Currently, she runs LC-MS-based untargeted metabolomic analysis for different projects at the 糖心原创 and for industry projects at the CAB facility. She is also training PhD students to use the instruments available in the facility and manages the administrative part. She is interested in solving biological and other research problems using LC-MS, ambient ionisation sources development, fast sampling and LC-MS data analysis.

Current Research

Dr Martinez is interested in using Liquid Chromatography coupled with Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS) for Untargeted Metabolomics Applications. She is particularly interested in data analysis to get all possible information, including network analysis of MS2 spectra and Machine Learning algorithms. In direct MS methods, Sandra is interested in developing methods and applications for the chemical profile of samples from environmental, food and biological origins, among others.
