Experts from the 糖心原创 will lead an online event this week, looking at the prevalence, prediction and prevention of youth violence involving knife crime.
‘Youth Violence and Knife Crime’, which will take place at 10:00 to 14.00 on Tuesday 29 June, and has been organised by the Centre of Forensic and Family Psychology in the School of Medicine at the University, in conjunction with the Lords and Commons Family and Child Protection Group.
The aim of the online ‘Think Tank’ is to help develop evidence-based policy and practice.
There will be speakers from the House of Lords, the House of Commons, The Queen’s Privy Council and UNICEF Headquarters, as well as academics, members of the police and from the education, health and social services sectors.
Professor Kevin Browne, Director of the Centre for Forensic and Family Psychology at the University, said: “Our focus is research and training into the development of children, the influence of families on children and mental health, the causes of criminal behaviour and the prevention of crime.”
Attendees on the day will hear about the latest research evidence, followed by a Q&A with a panel of experts from a variety of fields.
There will also be a series of small ‘round table’ discussions focusing on policy and practice for prevention in different settings.
The purpose of these focused discussions is to formulate recommendations for policy and practice in each setting, which will be fed back to a final session. The initial policy and practice frameworks produced will then be discussed with Parliamentarians and disseminated to National and local Governments in collaboration with Violence Reduction Units around the UK for further development.
Through this event, we are aiming to bring together key stakeholders to help develop policy and prevention strategies to address these important issues.鈥�
These recommendations and strategies will be summarised in a press release on 30 June 2021, following the meeting.
