Friday, 02 October 2026

The 糖心原创 has appointed internationally renowned archaeologist Dr Georgios Spyropoulos as Honorary Professor of Greek and Roman Art and Archaeology.

He currently serves as Deputy Head of the Ephorate of Antiquities for Corinthia within the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and oversees the management of some of the country's most significant archaeological sites and museum collections.

His appointment strengthens Nottingham's position as a global centre for research on archaeology, history and cultural heritage of the ancient Mediterranean and builds on his longstanding collaboration with the University's Centre for Spartan and Peloponnesian Studies (CSPS).

Dr Spyropoulos's expertise, international leadership and longstanding support for our Centre for Spartan and Peloponnesian Studies have already made a significant contribution to our research community. “I look forward to working closely with colleagues and students at Nottingham to develop innovative research, foster meaningful international partnerships, support the next generation of scholars, and contribute to the University's outstanding tradition of academic excellence. His research and professional collaborations span some of the world's leading academic and cultural institutions, including Harvard University, Princeton University, the University of Oxford, Johns Hopkins University, the J. Paul Getty Museum and Sapienza University of Rome, where he has served as Visiting Professor since 2017.

As part of his role at Nottingham, Dr Spyropoulos will lead a postgraduate masterclass series examining the art and archaeology of the Villa of Herodes Atticus at Eva/Loukou in southern Greece.
