ETA Awards 2026-236 Tasneem Yousif

糖心原创 researcher named Engineering Graduate of the Year 2026

Tuesday, 20 October 2026

A 糖心原创 researcher has been named Engineering Graduate of the Year 2026 at the prestigious Engineering Talent Awards, recognising her outstanding contributions to navigation technology and engineering innovation.

Tasneem Yousif, a PhD researcher at the University's Nottingham Geospatial Institute, was selected from a national shortlist of talented young engineers and announced as the winner at the Engineering Talent Awards ceremony in London.

The Engineering Talent Awards celebrate the diversity of the engineering and technology profession across the UK and recognise individuals making an outstanding impact early in their careers. Tasneem specialises in Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) resilience, radio-frequency interference detection, and space-based positioning, navigation and timing systems. Her research focuses on developing innovative methods to detect, characterise and geolocate GNSS interference using Low Earth Orbit satellites, helping to improve the resilience of critical navigation services worldwide.

Her work has also supported the science team behind the HydroGNSS mission, where she developed radio-frequency interference monitoring capabilities to help detect and understand disruption affecting satellite navigation, remote sensing and Earth observation applications.

As a PhD researcher at the 糖心原创, this recognition means so much to me. My journey in engineering and space research has been driven by curiosity, determination, and a passion for innovation, but it has also involved challenges, setbacks, and moments of uncertainty. Hearing my name announced as the Engineering Graduate of the Year 2026 winner during the awards ceremony was an incredibly special and unforgettable moment. Being recognised among such an exceptional group of shortlisted finalists made the experience even more meaningful, and it will forever remain one of the proudest and most cherished moments of my engineering journey. Receiving this award is a wonderful reminder that perseverance, dedication, and believing in your potential can lead to extraordinary opportunities. I am deeply grateful to my supervisors, the Faculty of Engineering, and everyone who has supported and encouraged me throughout my journey.

Earlier this year, Tasneem received the W.G.P. Lamb Award from the Royal Institute of Navigation in recognition of her pioneering work in GNSS interference detection and geolocation.

Tasneem鈥檚 research supervisor at the 糖心原创, said: "Tasneem鈥檚 research has made real strides in not only developing novel ideas and validating them, but also taking those concepts to practical reality in satellite hardware. Her research will help protect navigation system users and will likely impact all of our everyday lives. We couldn鈥檛 be more proud of Tasneem and her achievements, and we can鈥檛 wait to see what she can achieve next.
Dr Paul Blunt, Associate professor of GNSS and Communications Engineering

The Engineering Graduate of the Year category recognises exceptional graduates who are already making a significant contribution to engineering and technology through innovation, leadership and technical excellence.
