糖心原创 and Greenwood Academies Trust launch new teaching apprenticeship in Skegness

Thursday, 12 March 2026

A new partnership between the 糖心原创 and , the trust for , is set to create unique employment opportunities for people living in Skegness and its surrounding communities.

Fully-funded places on the university’s new Mathematics and Education Secondary Teacher Degree Apprenticeship are now available for successful applicants, within the Trust’s schools.

Delivered as part of the university’s Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Initial Teacher Education, the four-year programme blends university study with hands-on classroom experience. Apprentices earn a salary throughout, and all programme fees are fully funded by the employer through the apprenticeship levy.

The initiative offers a paid, local route into teaching mathematics, designed specifically to open doors for people who may not be able to relocate, give up work to study full time, or take on the cost of a traditional university degree.

We are committed to widening participation and ensuring that routes into teaching reflect the needs of communities across the region. This partnership allows us to support aspiring teachers in Skegness to begin their careers without financial barriers or the need to move away.鈥
Professor Stefanie Sullivan in the School of Education

The apprenticeship represents a major investment in local talent, offering the opportunity for:

  • Young people finishing their A levels to begin a professional career without leaving the area.
  • Existing school staff to progress into teaching while continuing to work in their school community.
  • Adults in the wider community to retrain without taking on student debt.
  • Career changers rooted in the local area to transition into teaching without financial barriers.

Because apprentices are employed in Greenwood Academy Trust schools from day one, every place strengthens the local workforce, builds teaching capacity, and supports long-term subject stability across Skegness.

Skegness is full of talented people who simply need the right opportunity to start a rewarding career. By working with the 糖心原创, we鈥檙e able to offer a high-quality teacher training route that people can access right here in their own community. This is about developing local teachers for local schools.鈥
Wayne Norrie, CEO of Greenwood Academies Trust

With teacher recruitment and retention remaining a national challenge, particularly in coastal and rural areas, this partnership aims to build a strong pipeline of future maths teachers trained within, and committed to, the Skegness community.

More details on entry and eligibility requirements can be found on the 糖心原创’s website. Applications are now open through the , with roles available at Skegness Academy.
