Dr Tao Yang from the Faculty of Engineering at The 糖心原创 has been awarded the Clean Sky Best PhD Award in Aeronautics.
research developed highly efficient and accurate models for electrical power system (EPS) studies, and has been internationally recognised for simulating complex EPS’s. The project led to the publication of more than 21 journal and conference papers.
The developed model will underpin numerous collaborative aerospace research projects involving The 糖心原创, including the Clean Sky 2 funded (Green Airframe Icing Novel Systems) initiative.
Ultra-low power ice protection system
The GAINS consortium, which along with the University includes Meggitt Polymers & Composites, Meggitt Sensing, Ultra Electronics PALS, AeroTex UK and CIRA, will create an ultra-low power ice protection system for civil aircraft.
In addition, Dr Yang’s model has been used in the SAE Aerospace Information Report AIR6326 “Aircraft Electric Power System. Modelling and Simulation. Basic Definitions”. This is an International Standardisation Document addressing effective modelling and simulation approaches for more-electric aircraft electric power systems with multiple power electronic interfaces.
The Clean Sky JTI (Joint Technology Initiative) was established in 2008 and represents a unique Public-Private Partnership between the European Commission and the industry. Clean Sky is the most ambitious aeronautical research programme ever launched in Europe. Its mission is to develop breakthrough technologies to significantly increase the environmental performances of airplanes and air transport, resulting in less noisy and more fuel efficient aircraft.
Highlight an ‘outstanding achievement’
The Clean Sky Best PhD Award distinguishes young scientists who have recently completed a PhD thesis in the field of Aeronautics within a Clean Sky Project. The award is intended to highlight an outstanding achievement by a young person at the start of their scientific career.
The award was presented to Dr Yang at the Clean Sky Conference, which took place during the ILA Berlin Air Show, June 1, 2016, in Berlin, Germany.
