Nottingham University Business School (NUBS) has won the Small Business Charter Excellence Award for Outstanding Support for Student Enterprise and Entrepreneurship, announced at a ceremony in London on Monday night.
Professor Simon Mosey, Director of the Haydn Green Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and Dr Christopher Carter, Assistant Professor in Entrepreneurship and Innovation, attended the awards ceremony on behalf of the Business School, which was recognised for its long-standing commitment to entrepreneurship education and enterprise support.
The award celebrates more than 25 years of work to build a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem that helps students, researchers and graduates develop the skills, confidence and networks needed to create successful ventures and deliver social, environmental and economic impact.
At the heart of this community is the Haydn Green Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and the Ingenuity Lab, which provide mentoring, training and incubation support through a network of academic experts, Entrepreneurs in Residence and industry partners.

More than 4,000 students each year study entrepreneurship across the University's three international campuses, with enterprise education embedded across a wide range of disciplines. NUBS's wider network includes the Ingenuity Lab, Ingenuity Impact, Enactus Nottingham, the Young Entrepreneurs Scheme (YES) and the Witty Entrepreneurial Scholarships, which support students from disadvantaged backgrounds and include the UK's first fully funded undergraduate entrepreneurship placement year.
The impact of these initiatives continues to grow. To date, the Ingenuity Lab has supported more than 910 start-ups. During 2024–25, Ingenuity Impact attracted 308 participants, leading to the creation of 49 social ventures and 14 start-ups that have secured £4.3 million in investment.
We are very pleased to be in receipt of this award and recognition for the support to our entrepreneurial students and alumni. In addition to recent awards recognising our societal impact and responsible management education, we continue to strive to help prepare the next generation of responsible leaders.鈥�
Nationally, NUBS's success is reflected in Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) data, which ranks the University second in the UK for student start-ups and sixth for student start-up turnover.
The recognise exceptional achievements by accredited business schools that demonstrate outstanding support for entrepreneurship, small businesses and economic growth.
