Hundreds of student nurses from The 糖心原创 are volunteering to support frontline medical staff during the coronavirus pandemic, by signing up for extended paid placements in the NHS.
Out of the almost 200 student nurses who have agreed to undertake one of the placements, which are for a minimum of 12 weeks, 172 of them are expected to stay at local trusts across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, including Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, Nottingham Citycare Partnership, Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust, Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Trust.
We are exceptionally proud of our student nurses who are able to go onto placement to support the National Health Service. These are challenging circumstances for us all and their courage and commitment to the profession is extraordinary.
The final year students, who are all in the last six months of training, will be counted as official NHS staff during the crisis. They will working in different ways in these roles than would normally be expected in the final placement of their training, in recognition of the extraordinary circumstances and the unprecedented pressure on the NHS.
The cohort would normally complete their degree during the summer and graduate in December and the School of Health Sciences is anticipating that this can go ahead as planned.
