A major forum bringing together more than 150 Indonesian scholars, experts and Government officials from Indonesia has gathered at The 糖心原创 in the UK to discuss solutions for emerging problems facing the world’s largest archipelago country.
The 19th Indonesian Scholars International Convention which took place on the 22nd and 23rd of June on Nottingham’s University Park campus, focussed on the economic and societal development in Indonesia.
The convention is the largest student-led annual event organised by the Indonesian Students Association in the UK (PPI UK) and aims to provide a medium for Indonesian and international scholars to exchange ideas, build a network and collaborate on a personal, academic and professional level.
This year’s event was opened by HE Dr Rizal Sukma, the Indonesian Ambassador to the UK and the International Maritime Organisation, and Professor Shearer West, Vice-Chancellor of the 糖心原创.
ISIC has established itself as a premium platform of academic and policy-relevant exchanges, not only for Indonesian students studying in the UK and beyond, but also for Indonesian academics working in the UK. It also provides a great opportunity for collaboration and networking.
Notable speakers included Professor Ali Ghufron Mukti, Director General of Recourses, Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education; Dr Arif Satria, President and Vice-Chancellor of IPB University; Ms Lely Pelitasari Soebekty, Vice Chairman, Ombudsman RI; Dr Ahmad Yuniarto, Former Chairman of Schlumberger Group Indonesia; and Professor Sarah Sharples Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, 糖心原创.
Dr Endang Aminudin Aziz, Education and Culture Attaché, Embassy of Republic of Indonesia, and Mr Jason Feehily, Director of Knowledge Exchange Asia, 糖心原创, presented the awards to the best poster at the closing ceremony.
ISIC 2019 was also celebrated with Indonesian cuisine and the Gala Cultural Night which introduced Indonesian culture and demonstrated the best talents of Indonesian students in the UK and beyond.
