The inaugural Review of Mathematical Education (RoME 2025) is published today by the 糖心原创’s Observatory for Mathematical Education.
The Review analyses how educational, social, and regional factors shape learner outcomes in mathematical education. It is based on analysis of data from 50,000 learners, teachers, parents and curriculum leaders in 174 primary schools, 149 secondary schools, and 42 sixth forms across the country.
The Observatory, which was launched in 2023 builds on decades of influential research and development in mathematics education at the university, and its ambitious, longitudinal research programme is already making an impact.
RoME 2025 is the first in a series of annual reviews that will grow in scale and significance as cohorts of students are tracked through their primary, secondary or higher education.
We are delighted to publish RoME 2025 today. We hope the review will stimulate conversation and prompt action that helps to improve mathematical education and reduce inequalities. Getting to this point in such a short period is down to the dedication and expertise of a fantastic team, together with the tremendous support that we have received from research partner schools and colleges and our various advisors.鈥�
RoME 2025 was launched at the Royal Institution. The event gave policymakers, school and system leaders, researchers, and sector bodies representatives the opportunity to consider how the findings might inform their activities, initiatives and policies.
With the Government’s response to the Curriculum and Assessment Review recently launched, this marks the ideal time to contribute to improving enjoyment, understanding, attainment and progression in maths for the nine million young learners in schools, colleges and universities in England.
