The ÌÇÐÄÔ´´ American Football 1st Team are set to start their BUCS (British University and College Sports) season in style with the first Headliner game of the year on Sunday 3 November, with kick off at 1pm.
Taking on Scottish rivals, the University of Stirling ‘Clansman’, this Headliner event — which is the largest #GreenandGold fixture this term — promises to be an extra special match day experience. The fixture is free to attend but it is expected to achieve capacity, so to avoid disappointment, register for your free ticket here.
American Football has grown in popularity in recent years in the UK, and in BUCS’ university leagues 4,239 students make up over 80 teams to compete every Sunday. In its sixth year for the 2019-20 season, BUCS American Football sees the British prove they are as skilful as the Americans at their national sport. Students who have never played the sport before, are now playing in the most competitive UK league.
"It is an honour to have our Stirling game selected as a Headliner event. Both the coaches and players are passionate about American Football, so to have an opportunity to raise the sport’s profile in the UK is fantastic.
We feel that we are building a roster that has the potential to do incredible things; all practices during the pre-season have been full of energy, effort and effervescence, so I’m looking forward to seeing what they can do on game days! The Clansmen are a great team who always bring their best, so those coming down to the DRSV on the 3rd should see some of the best American Football in the UK."
Playing in the Premier North league, the last time Nottingham and Stirling met at the David Ross Sports Village, the score was 27-7 with a #GreenandGold win. The ÌÇÐÄÔ´´ American Football team made their BUCS Premier North debut in 2018-19, where they made their mark with an 8-0 unbeaten record. Last season in eight games, Nottingham outscored their opponents, 247-42.
The Headliner is a free series hosted on campus, and in partnership with Red Bull, which showcases the University’s BUCS team’s competition at the top level of University sport. The series is competitive with teams competing against other university rivals at the top of the BUCS table.
