Expertise summary

As an international recognised scholar in place marketing, identity and social-political changes, I’m happy to talk about how everyday lives, mobility and visitor economy, particularly through gender inequality, migration and the visitor economy, and how these forces shape the cities we live in. My work looks at tourism not just as an economic activity, but as something deeply social, experienced differently by women, families and under‑represented groups. A key theme is how migration, heritage and everyday practices such as food help make cities more inclusive over time. Migrant‑run restaurants, for example, are not just places to eat but social spaces where cultural heritage is shared, identities are recognised and newcomers feel visible. Linked to family migration from Hong Kong and Mainland China, this perspective highlights how cities can become more child‑friendly, accessible and welcoming when everyday spaces reflect diverse histories and needs. Ultimately, this is about creating places that people feel they belong to — which is why my guiding idea is simple: let’s create inclusive places together.
