Engineering degree apprentice scoops coveted national award

An Electro-mechanical Engineer Degree Apprentice has beaten competition from across England to scoop a national award.

Ali Amin was named England’s Advanced Apprentice of the Year at the in London.

Praised by judges for dedicating his time to mentoring apprentices and encouraging local schools and colleges to get involved in engineering, Ali is in the first year of his five-year apprenticeship and splits his time between university learning and working at Shawpak – a Derby-based manufacturer of a range of medical device packaging machinery.

Working with a company like Shawpak in partnership with the ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´ has been an amazing experience, everyone has been incredibly generous with their time and knowledge, and the continued support I’ve received has been invaluable.

He continued: "In my time at the university so far, I’ve already picked up so many new skills and look forward to continuing to develop myself further in the years to come. I'm incredibly proud and humbled to have received this award."

Ali is also a member of the East Midlands Apprenticeship Ambassador Network (EMAAN), which allows him to continue encouraging other young people to consider apprenticeships.

This national award win is a fantastic achievement for Ali and his employer. The fact that they are both committed to further developing Ali’s career via the degree apprenticeship route at Nottingham is testament to the value that employer and apprentices alike are seeing from these programmes and reflective of the calibre of apprentice we are seeing enter our programme. We’re proud to have Ali and Shawpak on board.
