Double Fellowship win for leading computer scientist and power electronics engineer

Two researchers at the 糖心原创 have been elected as Fellows of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

Jon Garibaldi has received a Fellowship in recognition of his outstanding contribution to computational analytics in medicine, alongside Professor Patrick Wheeler for his advancement of research on matrix power converter technology.

Jon is Head of the School of Computer Science at the 糖心原创 and his main research interest is in the computational modelling of human decision making, primarily in the context of medical applications, using data to help doctors make decisions. He is also the current Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems, one of the foremost academic journals in the world in its field.

His work to date has concentrated on utilising fuzzy logic to model the imprecision and uncertainty inherent in medical knowledge representation and decision making. This has been applied in areas such as diagnosis and classification of breast cancer and Alzheimer's disease, and the assessment of immediate neonatal outcome.

Pat Wheeler is Professor of Power Electronic Systems, Head the Power Electronics, Machines and Control Research Group and Global Director of the Institute of Aerospace Technology.

The main thrust of Professor Wheeler’s research is in power electronics converters and their applications in both transport electrification - mainly aerospace, marine and automotive - and renewable energy. Both of which are essential as we move to a lower reliance on fossil fuels with the goal of living in a carbon neutral world.

This IEEE is the world’s largest technical professional organisation for the advancement of technology and elects fellows annually through a nomination process. IEEE Fellow is a distinction reserved for select members whose extraordinary accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest are deemed fitting of this prestigious grade elevation.
