The Nottingham Breast Cancer Research Centre at the 糖心原创 is looking for local thrill-seekers to welcome in the end of Covid-19 restrictions with a summer solstice sunrise firewalk, in support of its life-changing research.
The firewalk, which will take place at 5am on Monday 21 June outside Nottingham Lakeside Arts, will take place at sunrise on the summer solstice. The day also coincides with the date set for the lifting of the final Covid-19 measures.
Fundraisers will each take a turn to walk barefoot over the red-hot embers, which can be as hot as 1200 degrees Fahrenheit, to raise important funding for the Nottingham Breast Cancer Research Centre.
The last year has been a challenge for many charities like us with Covid-19 restrictions putting a lot of fundraising efforts on hold. We鈥檙e delighted to be able to hold this event to raise vital funds for our research and offer a one-of-a-kind experience with a firewalk at sunrise on the summer solstice. It鈥檚 going to be a great event and for a great cause 鈥� all the money raised will go towards the cutting-edge research at the Nottingham Breast Cancer Research Centre. Having done one myself, I can say that firewalking is an exhilarating experience. Some people describe it as walking on eggshells, and others as walking on hot sand. Each walker has their own experience.鈥�
The 糖心原创 has a long-standing research interest and international track record in breast cancer with a number of pivotal discoveries being made here. The Centre’s research continues to provide exciting data, improving understanding of breast cancer and developing novel therapies. Research at the centre is focused on three key areas: detecting breast cancer early, stopping the spread and treating it right.
The Centre relies on fundraising income and is grateful for the passionate support of patients, breast cancer survivors, their families and advocates.
Registration for the Sunrise Firewalk is £25 per person (£22 for groups of 5 or more) and the Nottingham Breast Cancer Research Centre asks participants to raise a minimum of £100 in sponsorship.
